OPEN HOUSE PRACTICE

The local community and general public are invited to join our Open House event to learn about both the sport and our club.  We want you to take a spin in a dragon boat with us around the scenic Outer Harbour.

The event is FREE and the use of paddles and life jackets is included.

Anyone of any age, gender, fitness level, or sports experience level is welcome.  No experience of any type is required!

Dragon boats are 40 feet long and very stable (not like a canoe or kayak). Our paddlers are age 12 to 85 and the sport if 75-80% women.

We also welcome anyone with a "disability" (email us to discuss and answer your questions).

SATURDAY, MAY 10, 2025 from 2 to 5 PM

The Rusty Dragons are inviting anyone from the public to learn all about the sport of dragon boating at our Open House event at Outer Harbour in the east end of Toronto (just 15-20 minutes from City Hall).

We are recruiting for our teams (see "Teams" dropdown above) and you can sign up for any team with or without going to the Open House event.  Note that you can ignore the team names and just pick one that fits your schedule and budget (all teams are non-profit).  If a team interests you, then sign up on the team page, but don't pay until you've tried a practice or two.

The general schedule for the Open House is as follows...

 - 2:00 to 2:30 PM - Meet and greet, sign waivers, get your paddle and PFD.
 - 2:30 to 3:00 PM - Learn the basics of paddling on land and hear safety talk.
 - 3:00 to 3:45 & 3:45 to 4:30 PM - "Try It" Paddling sessions.
 - 4:30 to 5:00 PM - Back on land, Q & A, and get help choosing a team.

This is a community sport that anyone can do.  We paddle lightly together for short periods at a time and explore Outer Harbour (we regularly see mink, beaver, cormorants, swans, black-capped night herons, and fish.  Many join for the light exercise, the scenery, and especially the camaraderie and making new friends.

See the "Practice Site" page for location, directions, and parking/TTC (link is on the main menu above).  The location is the scenic and protected water body between Tommy Thompson Park and Cherry Beach.

To register, please email "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." so we have a rough idea of how many are coming.  Note that it is also totally okay if you show up last minute without contacting us.

We hope to see you soon!
